This is a very strange list indeed. Why is Gainesville ranked so much higher than Tallahassee? Yeah the Gators have won more championships, but Tallahassee has TWO universities. Why is Athens GA ranked so low? Why is Green Bay ranked so high? Yeah they have rabid NFL support, but that's about all they have, isn't it?

How can Tuscaloosa be ranked so much higher than Auburn?

This list seems very arbitrary.

Most lists like these are pretty much arbitrary. Green Bay is still ranked high on many of these lists though.
Green Bay is consistently rated high because of the level of devotion of an entire city of only 100,000 people. Lambeau season tickets have the lowest turnover rate of any sports franchise and have been "sold out" since the 1960s. They have also managed to keep the team's "owned by the community" status. That's why it's so cool. There is no baseball. No NBA. No big college program in Green Bay. Just people living and breathing football 365 days a year. There are very few towns that unbelievably crazy about one team.
