Believe or not southerners do frequently vacation to places like Colorado, Utah, Montanta, and Northern/Midwestern states! EEEK!

For instance, in some places where it might snow on the odd occassion if schools close for a couple of inches of snow a northerner will respond with "we can have 2 feet of snow and schools would still be open" or if a southerner complains about feeling cold at 30 degrees the northerner response will be "this is nothing." The boasting goes to the point of exaggerating.

BUT....

When a northerner complains about excessive heat at 83 degrees, southerners don't boast about not turning on the air conditioning at 105 degrees or bragging about how much heat they can tolerate.

Why is it such a one way street?
1) 30 F is a heat wave after temps have been in the single digits or teens. Many people in Chicagoland (and other northern cities) treat 30 F like it is 50 F if we previously had a long spell (4 or more days) of temps and or wind chills in the single digits or colder.
2) 83 F excessive heat? Maybe in Alaska. Low to mid 80's is nice.
3) I do not care where you are from if you have a working AC it is on when the temps or heat index get above the mid 90s range.

Why is it a one way street? Everybody has experienced heat for a long period at some point of their live, and cold is deadlier than heat.

It is all in the blood, how thick or thin depends on where you live, one builds up a tolerance for a certain climate One's blood tends to thicken when living in a cold weather climate,so going to a warmer more humid climate can be annoying and vice versa warm climate person going to cold climate.

I don't expect anyone to adapt seemlessly to temperatures of 95, or 0, regardless of where they're from. However, I don't expect to hear the moaning and groaning, and the gnashing of teeth ,and reports of imminent doom, if we're talking about temperatures of 30 degrees.

Save the griping for those times when it's expected, not for run-of-the mill weather.

A few northerners brag about handling the cold, some gripe about it. Some actually like it. Anyone who has seen ice fishing or snow machines in Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota would know that many in the upper midwest love winter. You may here some up here brag about our winters for this reason. Also the snowcovered landscape is really pretty up here ( as long as your not in the city). Oh and we dont complain about 83 degree days, we do tolerate the heat. Southerners erronously think we will all drop dead if it gets hot. Just so you know it can get almost as hot up here as it does in dixie. Record highs in Mich are well over 100, and yes we survive. What we have up here is more extreme temprerature changes than the south has. Winter lows can be 30 below or worse and summer highs over 100 and humid. Now states to our east dont have as cold of winters, but they get just as hot in summer. Many people down south have LOTs of misconceptions about the north, and some of them make me laugh. I once had a woman ask if Lake Michigan has ice on it year round.
