Question: What is the most beautiful, historic residential neighborhood on the New England coast???
We are interested in your thoughts re which neighborhood has the highest concentration of charming, historic homes.
Feel free to post any photos if you have them.
Housing costs, jobs, size of town or city, etc, is irrelevant to our inquiry. We are historic preservationists and we are just interested in residents thoughts re which historic neighborhood on the coast is the most beautiful.
Thanks in advance.

Reason: Changed title for OP
Beacon Hill area of Boston.
The town of Newburyport.
A lot of Concord.
In the town of Littleton, a co-worker of mine just bought a house built (and moved on a wagon) from 1730. The floors are former ship timbers, huge wide wide plank hardwoods. The house was called "Tory Tavern" due to it being a safe house and tavern for Brits and Tories. The front door is on display at the Historical Society, with the musket holes in it from the time revolutionaries shot at the door so the inhabitant would come out and declare his loyalties (or lack thereof, he headed out the back door). The staircase still has musket holes in it. The owners like to go and visit "their door."
A lot of towns, like Littleton, have a small historical district from colonial and pre-Revolutionary times, but are overall not what you describe you want.
Best wishes on your interest in these wonderful places. I've got no pics, sorry.
This question is way too subjective. Every poster in here is partial to our own coastal towns. To suggest that one may be be more beautiful or more historic than another would be ludicrous. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
On the Massachusetts coast, I'd say, in order of preference
Beacon Hill
Marblehead (old town)
Nantucket town
Edgartown
Oak Bluffs
Salem
Newburyport
Charlestown
There are also beautiful historic rural landscapes like Westport, up-island Martha's Vineyard, Newbury Old Town, Ipswich, parts of Cape Cod, and more.
