Let's imagine that there were exactly same amount of Chinese, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Hebrew and Arabic speakers in the U.S, what second official language should the U.S. have had if you had to decide. Let's also say that English was our first official language?
(Let's imagine there were 5% Spanish, 5% French, 5% Arabic, 5% Chinese, 5% Italian, 5% Hebrew and 5% German speakers of the U.S. population, what second official language would you have chosen for the U.S. to have if you had a decision?)
I picked German, but I'd guess Dutch if all else is equal. I think going from Dutch to English is relatively easy. I only picked German because it was the closest related of options.
Chinese would be good in this situation because China is so important, but switching from one to the other isn't that easy.
