I like the Blue Ridge and the Great Smokies, but to me, nothing tops the White Mountains. The snow caps, timberlines (even into the summer) and seasonal foliage makes them feel so majestic.

Technically, the Adirondacks are part of the Canadian Shield and the Catskills are an eroded plateau independent of any greater geologic feature, thus neither are Appalachian proper. That said, for the purpose of this poll, those are my two favorites :-)

All of the Appalachians and their associated uplands are strikingly beautiful in my opinion.

The White Mountains
Mount Washington has the most extreme weather of any weather reporting station in the world.
It holds the record for the highest sustained wind (231mph)
