I never said I never heard sirens. I did once in a blue moon. There are such things as quiet neighborhoods in the city and suburbs. But no, I never heard traffic. I've lived in and out of the city throughout my life, so maybe I'm more used to the sounds and don't notice it like transplants/tourists might. But no one who has slept over has mentioned any noise.

I've lived in Astoria, Maspeth, and Middle village (where I was born and lived in as a little kid). Even in Astoria, a block away from Ditmars, I rarely heard sirens. And I can't be all THAT used to the sound, because when I stayed at my then boyfriend's house (now my husband ) on Long Island, I'd hear sirens a whole lot more. He lived 5 minutes from a hospital.

Well, you can see how we can misunderstand you having never heard sirens from that post where you said you never have. Our mistake!

And so, I guess it still stands that it's better for you to say you've never really noticed them. I lived in the East Village, Washington Heights, Williamsburg, and Bed-Stuy and have stayed over in a lot of other parts of the city. I'm pretty good at noticing the noise happening (or even worse, when those stupid LED ad panels were put on the buses and they'd beam them right into my then-place in the East Village). That was super annoying, though I think (hope) they've discontinued that.

I said I've never heard the sound of traffic. Parts of NYC aren't loud like some people expect.

I totally agree, I never hear loud traffic, I hear a bus pass like every 10 minutes, some cars at night, the LIRR pass by. It's not all loud with honking horns everywhere, screeching outdoor subways (I hate those things, luckily I'm nowhere near em), and other excessive noise.

I do live near a busy precinct (this isn't the best neighborhood) and I do hear police sirens probably everyday but its not a constant thing.

The thing is I didn't say loud traffic, just normal traffic as you mentioned and she said she never heard traffic or sirens.

I guess she realized how silly that sounded and back tracked a little.

I never heard any traffic. Only noise I ever heard were the planes, and it wasn't all that bad. The planes are louder where I am now, 10 miles outside the city.
