3: Lastly, it was the decade of Japan and amazing Japanese cars and electronics. I recently picked up a HUGE boom box from the 80's for $5 at the flea market. Big heavy sucker. Anyway, there is a button for everything. It weighs a ton, and the level of quality is amazing. Seems like everything back then was made in Japan and whether it was a car, stereo, or TV it was going to be extremely well-made. These days those same things are all made in China and more the most part totally disposable.
You mean Reagan?

It is so obvious that the 2000s/now is so much better than the 1980s, and 1990s and for many reasons!
I cant believe this was not a 80-90% landslide victory for the 2000s/now!

Well, I think the reason so many of us feel the 80's and 90's were so much better than the 00's and '10's is because we had no responsibilities back then. I was an early teen when the 80's started, so I had no bills, no kids, no worries about where my next meal was coming from, etc.

We played outside until dark, as well as indoors. We TALKED on the phone for hours everyday, we interacted as kids so much more than the kids do today. Life WAS simpler then, and even more simpler before the 80's.

Yes, we heard about Gorbachev (sp), Reagan, USSR and all that on the news, but it didn't mean 2 squats to us.

The age factor, that's what's determining this poll more than anything, I think.

Not nostalgia at all. Just the overall picture.

I think life has drastically changed from the earlier 00's to now. I noticed some people were suggesting things are the same, but technology is more advanced. Well that's the thing; technology not only changes itself, but our lifestyle and the way we function change along with it.

It's the economy. The 80's had economic problems as well but for a well educated well experienced worker I think you could just simply make a better living back then than now. The 80's had some area's that experienced a hard time through much of the decade but for most of the country the recessions and downturns were short lived and very few. Unlike 00 to 2010 where the economy was poor almost the whole entire decade. Before 2000 you would have to go back to 1930's to find a recession (depression) that just dragged on and on and on the way the one we are supposed to finally, maybe (this time for real!) be getting out of now. And the energy prices in this country have never been so ludicrous for so long.

The only thing better IS the technology. I am about to get a new laptop that will replace the one I bought in 2004. To say that it is completely obsolete now would be an understatement.

One of the problems today is that this country USED TO BUILD THINGS AND IT DOESNT ANYMORE.
So many jobs used to come from manufacturing right here in the US and Im sure that put a large void in the economy.

It is worth noting that median income was lower in 2010 than in 2000. The middle class has been hollowing out since the recession of 2001.
