Right now Im renting in a really nice (in my opinion the best) neighborhood in my city. I lovee the area, historic, walking distance to downtown, quiet, no one hangs on the corners, tall ceilings! Can you picture it? I can't afford to buy a home here. Its important to me to have a yard, be able to walk to the library and have about 700 sq ft. I dont care if its tiny but nothing with more than 4 homes combined (fourplex)
By cheap I mean ... under 50K. Which seems crazy but I figured I should just ask. I'd make things happen in a brick warehouse so long as its in the right neighborhood. (Though nothing requiring a complete flip, you know =D?)

Im from Louisiana (BR), Im in my early 20's full time montessori teacher with degree but I'll probably work from home or be a private nanny if I move. Open-minded kind of person.

So... any similar areas where I can get all my fixes but for cheaper?
I dont mind moving out of state, just lets remember I dont know snow (not really wanting to get to know her in the extreme way either). Yet Im okay with cooler summers bc the ones here are too hot for me.

This feels worth asking

Not anything I can think of. The only thing you can get in Baton Rouge for 50k is either a MAJOR fixer or is in the ghetto.

You weren't real clear. When somebody posts something in the Baton Rouge forum asking about housing, that generally means they are looking within the Baton Rouge housing market.

I am finding nice houses for that amount actually. Though they are where its freezing cold! I dont know which locations are in sync with what Im looking for. While back I had my eye on Waterloo, Ny. But the area is off. Almost right but not quite.

If I could form a list of places to look into then Id spend the time looking. I just have no idea where to begin. The sites Ive found to look for real estate always require you to put in a location (you cant just search by price and amenities)

That's very low for an urban house unless it's in Detroit or some similarly depressed place. You might be able to get an apartment for that.
