We won't be ready to buy a home for 3-4 years, but I am doing my online research now. I have no idea where to live!
We are renting in MA now and have family and friends in MA, NH and CT, but I don't think we can afford to stay around here.
Here is what we need:
Single family home
3+ bedrooms
2+ baths
1500+ sq ft
NO HOA/deed restrictions or anything like that
Good schools
Safe neighborhood
decent salaries for corporate/college/nursing home chef
Less than $120K (preferably closer to $100K if possible)

I was looking in the Houston TX area and everything fit the bill, EXCEPT it is pretty much all HOAs I guess I would like to continue to do daycare out of my home, and that is impossible with a HOA.

So who can suggest a city and state for me? I really like the idea of living in the south, since I pretty much hibernate all winter b/c of the cold here. But I wouldn't mind being somewhat close to family if we could afford it. So pretty much anywhere that isn't loaded with HOAs

In the North you may want to check out Scranton PA:
Lackawanna County :: Convention & Visitors Bureau

In the Southwest check out Albuquerque NM:
Albuquerque - Albuquerque New Mexico - Albuquerque NM

You might look at the Myrtle Beach, SC area...specifically the town of Conway. The schools are good, the climate is nice (no hibernation required), close to the beach and there are a number of chef positions within the country club/resort communities as well as Coastal Carolina University.
