It's very important to me because I would want a wide selection of restaurant choices to dine at, and I would want my future kids growing up around children of different backgrounds. Most of my friends growing up were Puerto Rican and Mexican. I'm glad I didn't grow up in a lilly white town.
Diversity is also important to me. I want to be around all different kinds of people and eat all different kinds of food. I want my kids to grow up with different kinds too.
I like diversity too, but if I live in a not-so-diverse area I wouldn't really complain. After all, it would be fun to be the 'exotic' looking person in town, rather than people summarily making weird judgments about me since I'm Filipino. However, it would probably get annoying after a while being constantly asked 'where are you from?'
Maybe its because I've lived in relatively diverse areas nearly my whole life that I'm sort of jaded about it.
I think it is somewhat important due to the globalization of the world we live in today. It is getting smaller and more competitive due to advances in technology that we use to some degree everyday.
Also, it is a matter of what one considers "diverse" in terms of degree/volume and context.
The only diversity I care about is diversity in seasons and political/religious opinions; any other type of diversity matters little to me.
