Yeah it was about 9 years ago...I think it was the year Bush was "elected" and the religious right came into power.
Well the northeastern states got together, and we all decided that however the rest of the country is, we're gonna do the oppostite, for ****s and giggles really, then it became on ongoing obsession.
No health care---we'll do universal healthcare, line up for your shots kids
Ban gay marriage--come one, come all to get hitched, P-town is a gorgeous place in the summer
Guns for everyone--lock em up baby, or we'll take em away and then tax you
Tax cuts for the rich---tax hikes for all, especially the rich, maybe the middle class too, we have to pay for that healthcare
Fearing God--church, smurch, who needs it, no guns and with universal healthcare, I'm gonna live forever!
NASCAR--screw that, i'd rather play polo on my horsey.
Hate the French--let the French president vacation at one of our many beautiful lakes.
Hurricanes and destruction--clear skies and smooth sailing. We're yatching down to the Vinyard Saturday, dinner with the Clinton's.
etc etc etc...you get the point.
Then we single handedly elected that socialist, facist, communist, and all around meany, Barack Obama. Really as a middle finger to the south and mountain states, then we're like, "damn he's smart, maybe we'll let him stick around and fix up the place." We heard Bush made a huge mess, when we were out getting groceries-I think it was Italian that night. You just can't leave a Texan to do a man's job, gosh.

At the very least, you REALLY need to get out of your little New England bubble and see the rest of the country you obviously hold in such disdain.
When does Louisiana get disrespected? I feel if anything, it's overlooked. How are NY & Mass the definition of everything Northern? Aren't we a bunch of hippie commies? That would probably lean more towards Vermont then, which is 6.6% unemployment.
The three major cities of the Northeast (Boston, NY, Philly) are all below the national average in terms of unemployment.
Regardless, I don't think you quite understood my point...I showed that Southern states have larger unemployment rates than Northern states currently...I'm not sure how Louisiana having a lower unemployment rate than NY and Mass proves your point in any way.

You basically took your stereotypical look of people who live in the NYC/Boston/Philadelphia area and said "that's the entire Northeast". Totally ignoring all of upstate New York, and upper New England...those places are much closer to the "quiet, sleepy ol South" that you love (at least in terms of pace, economics, etc). You think the people in Bangor, Maine are slicking back their hair, throwing on Armani shirts, heading to the club, sniffing blow, comparing salaries, and laughing about those other "chump" lumberjacks who don't make nearly as much money as them?
No, that's your particular view of what the "real America" should be. If you erase your personal political view, you'll realize that San Francisco and Boston are just as American as Bangmysister, Mississippi. Back to the time of the Revolution states were back and forth about whether or not to go to war. Our right to disagree with our fellow countrymen and not be persecuted for doing so is what makes us American. There was never any talk about socialism when the United States was founded. Karl Marx wasn't born until forty two years after our country was founded...with The Communist Manifesto not being published for another thirty years.

Has anyone in your family ever collected unemployment, or Medicaid? If so, you're a dirty, pinko commie. This ain't 1970 USSR buddy. We won the war. If there are certain aspects of socialism that are adopted to help people in need, we can probably get away with it. There aren't going to be any IS-4 tanks rolling down Pennsylvania Avenue anytime soon. (All that said, I don't agree with the Healthcare bill that was just passed, but did favor the original bailout...however I would be against a second)

I find that doubtful. People are too expressive in many cases. People are outspoken against government, which he would hate. I'm not sure of his stance on homosexuality, but I'll take a shot in the dark and assume he wouldn't have liked it. I'm not sure how he would feel about the high education levels, since an educated population would be more likely to protest unfair ideals. Perhaps he would have been happy about the prosperity of much of the population, and the generally high health levels.
In my opinon, Stalin probably would have liked the more uneducated parts of the country...they tend to be blinded by religion and therefore are easier to mold. By taking the side of God, and proclaiming himself to be acting out His will, the religiously devout would have hung on his every word.
It must make you sad that you apparently have conformed to our "typical hatred".
I don't want to get into politics here, but I'll just say that any state that continuously re-elects a dying drunk driving murdering socialist criminal is a disgrace to the U.S., and Boston is at the heart of Massachusetts' screwed up political system and Ted Kennedy country. I'm surprised they didn't re-elect his corpse.
Here's the thing: The Northeast was the birthplace but is NOT the cultural heart of the nation in any way, shape, and form. Do you seriously think that people in the Midwest, the South, the interior West, and even Northern New England want to see their states and towns become anything like NYC and Boston? They don't identify it as the heart of anything. You're delusional.
Luckily I have the freedom to move, but I'd prefer a foreign nation over life in the Northeast.
