The Creek and Cherokee lands was divide by the Chattahoochee river the site of the Sandtown trail and "Standing Peachtree village", Decatur was founded at the intersection Shallow Ford and Sandtown Native American trails the first European settlement in 1823. Decatur rejected being the Terminus of the "Western and Atlantic Railroad" so a new site to the west was selected.
