I'll be immigrating to the US soon and would like to ask your opinions on cities I might like based on my personal thoughts. (Staying in CA to begin with until I find somewhere I like)
I'm looking to live in a state that aligns with most of my values (doesn't need to be all of them). I strongly believe in the second amendment and defending oneself, their loved ones and property. I believe everyone should be allowed to do what they like in the privacy of their own homes and throughout their lives. Provided their actions do not infringe or stop another persons ability to do the same thing. I believe victimless crimes should not carry a jail sentence and I'm against over regulation and the limiting of personal freedom in general.
Along with my values I'm also looking for states that have a relatively low level of crime, and a decent amount of white-collar work (I work in tech sector but doesn't need to be a tech company) available.
I crossed off NY and CA straight away, and based on recent events also crossed off MN, OR and WA.
Some states I am interested in learning more about and whether you think they would fit my values are NC, KY, WI, VA, CO, ID and GA.
You have an outdated definition of libertarian. Today it’s all about freedom for you even at the expense of “them”. Other than that you could try a small town and just keep your views to yourself.
A lot of Utah republicans seem very libertarian to me. I mean that in a good way.
I agree, I feel like Utah republicans are pretty different than the ones in the surrounding states. Utah is a young, educated, religious state. The republicans here seem to be The free market business type with some social issues like abortion being important to them. But they aren’t religious in the way the southern states are we passed an LGBT protections bill in 2015 and Utah has the 2nd highest support of any state for LGBT rights. Conversion therapy was banned (still many blue states have not) and medical marijuana was passed recently.
You need to dig up two maps where one shows median household income and the other recent presidential and congressional election results. Make sure the MHI is high enough and in the meantime the county/district has a consistent voting record (in terms of % votes) in favor of the Republican Party.
Depends on which set of liberties you want...the right wing end or the left wing end.
