I was wondering about what do schools in different states offer their children in the way of athletics. I ask because athletics can be a way for children to get involved in school and the amount of offerings can increase the percentage of participation for the school's student body. I notice in NY State, there seems to be many more offerings than you would see in many other states in the country.
there was swimming for boys and girls too but i forget when. I think girls in fall, boys in winter or vis versa. We didn't have volleyball although some neighbouring towns did but only for girls. Some nearby schools have skiing and crew too, although these are more often run as clubs and not varsity sports. I would be very interested to see what sports exist where. For those of you not in the northeast, were hockey and lacrosse major varsity sports?

Where I went to school, we had almost every sport imaginable. Even had badminton. In HS I played on the ice hockey team (the only girl), field hockey, softball, and soccer. I think NY has some of the most HS sports to choose from. We have high school taxes, and this is one reason why. Don't have to pay for anything either, like uniforms, transportation, etc.

I agree and people don't think about how this participation helps kids stay interested and involved in school.
I know of schools in my area with crew, ski, girls hockey and rifle teams. I don't know of any schools with water polo and that might be the only sport that isn't played in NY schools.

the sports I listed are from my high school in the Orlando area. I also forgot to add girls flag football for spring sports and dance in the fall if u wanna consider that a sport. They also offer rugby as a club sport. we don't have to pay for uniforms or transportation for our sports either.
my high school has about 3,000 students, I guess thts why it offers a lot of sports and other activities and clubs. It had as much as 5,000 in the past but new schools were built to relieve the growing population.
PS. waterpolo is a real fun sport, I'm surprised they don't have it up north, I played it for 3 years and swam all four years.
