In the Combined Statistical Area (CSA) of Greater LA or Los Angeles-Long Beach, what is the furthest town or city from Los Angeles itself? Given Long Beach is only 30 minutes away from Downtown LA, it doesn't seem that far...more like a neighbourhood of LA than a separate city or town.
As for CSA's in America, what are some cities or towns that are quite far (2 hours or more) from the main metropolitan centre i.e. Chicago, LA, NYC? For example, Poughkeepsie is roughly 2 hours from New York City itself, but still apart of New York's metropolitan or CSA area.
Tiny Gerlach, NV is 1 hour and 43 minutes from Reno and is in the Reno MSA, because of the long shape of Washoe County. It's found a new role as a pit stop for travelers en route to Burning Man in the secluded Black Rock Desert.
Some towns in NH like Center Harbor (population: 1,906) are about 2 and a quarter hours form Boston. 3 hours with traffic. Funny though, that Hartford (population 122,000) 1hr40mn from Boston isnt in the CSA. Neither is Springfield (population 156,000) only 1hr30 minutes away, Both Hartford and Springfield are more culturally similar (density, climate, diversity) to Boston than far flung towns and oftentimes a good deal physically closer. Sometimes 15-20 miles closer in.
For Boston: Athol, MA - Windham, CT - Meredith, NH - Sturbridge, MA - Charlestown, RI - Provincetown, MA.
Edit: I actually don’t think Barnstable County is counted, which is weird seeing as Windham County (CT) and Washington County (RI) are counted, but are further from Boston?
I guess Cape Cod is just far enough from both Providence and Boston for it to not count.

Well, the CSA is basically the Providence-Worcester-Manchester region more than it’s the Boston region.
Even then, Belknap County (NH) is a bit of a stretch, imo.

Meredith is further than half of Hartford County CT. 10 miles further than Hartford. How is New London not in Boston’s CSA???? The list goes on....
Bell so County is nothing “Boston” at all. That’s just woods that could be anywhere. For Boston’s CSA to cover that and even mire remote towns in NH! But not Springfield or New London seems ridiculous to me.
But it’s closer to Manchester than Hartford is to Worcester. (Albeit barely).
Hartford and Springfield have their own CSA. It’d be pretty wild if the two were merged.
But in reality, isn’t all of southern New England (and a good bit of NH) realistically the Boston CSA? minus SWCT, the Berkshires and the islands?? The need for us to incorporate totally unremarkable and independent towns 120 miles away into a “Boston” CSA is asinine to say the least. No urbanity or connectivity, no connectivity whatsoever besides sports fandom.
*I think I was mistaken about Springfield-Hartford being a CSA.

There probably aren’t a ton of people commuting from Colchester, CT to Worcester or Providence. These things are supposed to be based on commuting patterns after all.
