Yeah, DC definitely has a Southern feel to it. Especially the NoVA suburbs which begin as soon as you cross the Potomac river. Many people will claim that NoVA has nothing in common with the South, but you start feeling the difference the momenet you cross the VA border. It's something in the air. Maybe the climate.

Baltimore is a completely difference place, totally Northern culturally and a huge immigrant base. Most Baltimoreans are descendants of Polish/Irish/Jewish/Italian immigrants, which is the norm in the Northeastern US. Can't say the same about the DC/VA area; there are a lot of Anglo-Saxon folks here

D.C is MIDATLANTIC...It can be northern and southern at the same time....it moves like the north but has roots in the south ..my mother is from GA and father's parents from Arkansas....We talk with a laid back drawl which can sound southern to northerners but may be northern to southerners....When I first went to Baltimore ppl would think I was from Chicago or somewhere down south bc we do use slang and an accent that I guess isnt northern ...we dont say "yo" we say young...just like Chicago we say "jo" or "moe"...slang for days but overrall I would say most D.C's roots are southern from history but its Midatlantic..you'll see when you get here

Immediately, no. The more you get into it, yes. Alexandria and Arlington does not feel Southern whatsoever. Large parts of Fairfax County doesn't either. When you enter Prince William, that's when you feel you're getting into the South. But not Arlington, Fairfax, and Alexandria does not feel Southern.

Bored, your statement doesn't add up. People from NYC to NO say young. Baltimore people say dug for dog. If that isn't country then I don't what is. All black people have southern roots. AA Philly people have a twang in their accent too. When they go to NYC, people say they talk country. I think DC's accent is Mid Atlantic. If you listen to Allen Iverson or Martin Lawrence or Tariji P. Henson, they sound similar.
