I compiled a list of notable wealthy towns listed from wealthiest on down. I used per-capita income as this is widely considered the most accurate measure for the overrall wealth of a community. I did not include country-club communities or small gated communities which are incorporated. I only listed true traditional town center type places. Some donut-hole or adjacent communities that are split but in reality are small parts of a whole where assembled and added as well.

Per capita income is probably not a perfect indicator of wealth as a lot of residents may be not earning an income at all but own a considerable amount of assets. The listed towns are certainly gold-plated, though.

Not sure how accurate this list is. My hometown in Connecticut has a per capita income exceeding $50,000 with a traditional town center yet it has not been listed.

I thought Highland Park, IL would have an income much higher than that. Same with Wilmette. Actually if Hinsdale has a higher income than both of those places I'd be surprised.

I hand picked notable wealthy communities. This list is not comprehensive. Per-Capita is the most accurate because it gives you a more general sense of the wealth of the "community" overall. Wealthy people with assetts still have investment income.

This list or the metros chosen seems a little arbitrary - and it seems like some areas in metros were not included

The statistics you quote discriminate against some religions, which tend to have larger families. A city with many such families would rank lower, even though its median FAMILY income is higher. Another thought: Many years ago the ZIP code for Techny IL had the highest per capita income for IL, even though it was populated entirely by monks who took a vow of poverty. It turns out it had a landfill, and the income from that was divided by the population.
