I used all three. In the city, block was much more common than where I am now. I really do miss those Queens BLOCK parties, lol. What we have in the suburbs are not quite the same.
Rarely do I ever say road, mostly street or block, depending on where I am. If I am in a big city, then I say block and if I am in a town, suburb, small city, etc... I usually say street.
I say what's appropriate - you don't go around the street or road, you go around the "block". If you live in a city or town, usually you go down the "street." If you live in the country, or are driving in the country, "roads" are appropriate, not streets. It's really not complicated.
I can't remember the last time I said block. It might have been shortly after I was moved from Detroit. I haven't heard anyone here use the term "go around the block", but I'm sure there are plenty of people who do (plenty of people with Chicago heritage here).
i say block and street the most, though only where they actually apply. I wouldn't call a rural road a street or block.
"i'm going around the block"
"it's two blocks down that way"
"go two streets over"
"go two blocks over"
"go four blocks down the street"
"i live on this block"
"i live on this street"
"cool block party"
I say road once in a while i guess...especially if i'm going down something best described as a "road." Usually that means it's suburban or rural, but there are even some "roads" in San Francisco (all through the projects it seems: Harbor Road, Navy Road, etc).
