DC is a southern city because its below PA case closed and West VA being northern when in fact they're so behind the times is a huge joke lol. West VA is one of the most racist, and countrfied states in the south. It way more southern than NC or VA infact it feels and ppl talk like they're from the deep south!
I'm sorry did you not have a fun time in West Virginia, or have you just heard too many Dick Cheney jokes!
Have you ever even been here? North Central WV has nothing in common with the South, and a good part of the rest of the state is more like the Midwest.
I'd put everything below Charleston in the South, east of Charleston in the Midwest, and north of Charleston in the North!
And as for you calling WV "countrfied, rasist, and behind the times," you have no idea what your talking about, and should probably not open your mouth!
Significant chunks of Georgia and Alabama are Appalachian in nature, particularly Georgia. Mississippi is completely deep-south, whereas Georgia is only about two-thirds deep South.
Yeah, I live in south Alabama where the terrain is flat and we have tall longleaf pines and magnolias everywhere, when I go into north Alabama and start seeing hills and limestone boulders on the sides of the highways I know I'm not at "home" anymore, even though I'm in the same state.
I can't stand it when the south gets labeled in this manner by the northeast/midwest but on the flip side I equally can't stand when southerners complain about damn Yankees. My Dad's from the south and my Mom is from the midwest, I have the best of both.

To be honest my midwest IL relatives have never said anything derogatory about the south. Where as my southern GA relatives have, an aunt once said my mother was the only yankee she ever liked. My Mom thought it was funny and laughed it off, I told them they were still upset over losing the war which they thought was funny.

I've encountered both. My grandfather is not fond of anything south of where he lives in NY. He even talks badly of the next county down. I know some folks from the NY low-land who badmouth Kentucky on a regualr basis. I don't like it. Makes folks like me look bad by association.
I've also encountered southerners here in LA who bad mouthed Yankees to me. Their reasoning was largely inaccurate. When I told them where I was from, they seemed to trip on their words. "Yankees are all rich" is the one that angers me the quickest. Yeah, we're all rich, that's why I grew up in poverty.
Frankly the north and the south have a lot more in common than most people are willing to admit. This is the same country after all.

I once saw a bumper sticker at home, San Antonio that said "We Don't Care How You Did Things Up North".
