I take it you've never been to most of them. Adirondack NP, Shenandoah NP, Smoky Mtn NP are all "impressive", IMO, and I live in the west.
Shenandoa NP and Smoky Mtn. NP remind me of Foothills. And with the exception of the Fall, they are rather boring foothills. And yes, I have been there.
All of them...the natural aspect about America is what makes it so unique. As I get older and older, the more and more I appreciate nature and what mother earth has to offer!
America is a land of wide open spaces, and I enjoy the fact that some of these spaces are around for all of us to enjoy!
It means that Eastern National Parks wouldn't even qualify as state parks in many Western States, particularly Oregon, b/c they are not very impressive by Western Standards.
And yet the Smokey mountains is the most visited national park in the U.S. LOL.
I always thought that it looked so pretty there. I would also love to visit Denali.
Definitely not overrated, but often overlooked/forgotten about because it is not in the mainland, is Volcanoes National Park. It was one of the coolest experiences I have had, and I hardly touched the surface.
Also in Hawaii is the Napali State Park, which is a truly amazing place.
And yet the Smokey mountains is the most visited national park in the U.S. LOL.
Size and proximity have a lot to do with that. You are not seeing many people that live in breathtaking locations booking a trip to see the smokey hills.
