The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
An American tradition that goes back aways.

It is so nice to see it every year, all the floats and the funny huge balloons!

But what's this? Screaming? When did all the screaming start?
And hang on...what year is it now? 2008? Hum, by the looks of the parade you'd think it was 1968....talk about living in the past!
Oh, now here's a nice float!....But wait, what's this? More SCREAMING? Hum. O.K. the kids, they boyiez, on the float all dressed for a funeral, blasting noise at top volume, hats on sideways, and screaming screaming.....
Well, on to the next float....Wait, what's this? The "gay" float? Don't they already have their own parade? Can't we have a parade with out the "gay" issue shoved in our kids faces?
Oh well, on to the next 'performance'....NOW WHAT?
More screaming, SCREAMING! Is this the Thanksgiving parade or some tribal ritual we're seeing here?....Or is it a Afro-American Southern Baptist Church Service? Hummmm, hard to tell, but they sure are SCREAMING....yikes!
Well, so much for the "thanksgiving parade".....at least there is football, only slightly less boring, hackneyed and trite...

You missed the one year new york was proclaimed the Entertainment Capital of the World- and then the wrong music played! The 'people' on the float stopped singing and waited, verrrry awkward. I usually manage to sleep through that and the Christmas tree lighting.

I went to the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade as a little kid. Most NYers don't go to it unless they have a little kid who has never seen it. I don't even remember it, so it probably wasn't a really big deal to me. Still enjoy watching it on tv, though. When I have kids, I'll take them once and that's it

This year they are planning to have a driedel balloon at the parade as Thanksgiving will coincide with the Jewish holiday of Chanukah/Hanukkah which is a very rare event indeed.

I've never been. Too crowded and touristy. I've also never been to Times Square on New Years' Eve. Also too crowded and touristy. I like watching both on TV, though.

Everyone should do it once if they get an opportunity. I found it fun near the grandstands/review area where TV coverage occurs. Unlike most crowded big city affairs it seemed everyone was courteous and happy to be there and not to sound hokey, but it really does put you in a holiday spirit.
