Considering moving to north Ga and noticed lots of homes for sale in Habersham County. Is this a result of overbuilding, taxes, crime, etc.? Please advise. Thanks

Default i think

i think there are several issues impacting Habersham.

1. few jobs
2. same market as around the country. too much inventory and not enough qualified buyers.
3. second homes folks no longer can afford or want.
4. retirees dying off or getting old and needing to move in with family or assisted living.
5. some of all the above.

Habersham still has a nice quality of life which i define as relatively slow paced, little crime (compared to metro areas) etc.

people moving from locales with a lot going on e.g. shopping, entertainment, conveniences etc will be disappointed quite possibly in NE Georgia generally. once you go north of Athens life begins to slow down significantly. if that is what you want, go for it but bear in mind you could be one of those trying to sell a house in an area that is flooded with homes for sale.

all the best.

Default Habersham

Thanks for your thoughts on Habersham. Choosing where to retire is difficult as there are so many things to consider. Trying to get closer to family in Hall county but not particularly interested in Hall due to large minority population. Thanks again

Default Habersham County

The thing I like about Habersham County is that it is so centrally located. You can be in western North Carolina in less than 2 hours, S. Carolina less than an hour. If you want to go to Atlanta it is just a brief 60/70 mile drive. What we are lacking in entertainment and retail shops is more than made up for in our way of life. It is very common to go to lunch and see people praying over their meals. It is truly a kind gentle place. Also since we are on the down side of the mountains are winters here are doable. Consider Habersham if you are making a move.
