Anyone have an idea about Brunswick area, I looked at a few places recently which were well priced for new construction, not far from I 95, living in Central Fl. now, but travel up North a lot, and taxes and Insurance seem a lot less in GA. as opposed to Fl,a plus I like new construction, I work for myself, so can live anywhere, and like warmer weather, so Ga. being 150 north of where I am now may be a smart change, and plus St Simons Island is closeby for a beach escape.Oh, and I would want single ranch type home.

Lots and lots of new construction in Brunswick right now. And, fortunately for you, it's a buyers market right now. I can't figure out why they keep building, building, building while there are so many houses on the market already.

What price range are you looking for? sq. ft.? are schools a concern?

What other info do you need?

Schools are not a concern, I mostly want to know if area I like is safe, and I was told taxes are 1 percent of sale price of home. The places I looked at were $130,000 to $150,000, seemed like you couldnt go wrong, area was all new consrtuction.1250 to 1450 square feet. and close to Hwy.That is price range I am willing to pay, and dont know anywhwere else you can get a new home with a half acre of land,I figure with what I pay in taxes, ins, and upkeep on an older place would be offset by new constuction, energy efficient appliances, etc appreciate the input,

I'm guessing that you're looking in the area around exit 29 off of I-95? If so, that's a fine area. Also, lots of new construction in the Harry Driggers Rd. area....lots and lots in that area. Both areas are growing and very safe. The only areas of safety concern are in the older core areas of town, but I doubt those have caught your attention if you're looking at new construction.

thats good to know, never heard of Harry Driggers Rd. but will check it out, I have a summer place in Western NC that we use 6 months a year, so this would be our Winter place if that makes sense. Am I right that taxes are 1 percent of sale price of property. I was up that way twice, and now thinking this over again, this is a 6 hr ride from my place in NC, and a 8 and a half hour ride from where I live in Fl.and only go to beach about 3 or 4 times a years, seems you know Ga. well.

According to this site (http://www.bwkeda.com/taxes.html - broken link) the Effective Tax Rate is $9.09 per $1,000 of fair market value. Here's the link to the Glynn Co. Govt. Tax info, but I didn't find any millage rate info there....only Homestead Exemption info.

Yep, Georgia is about all I know.
