I am from N.E. Georgia but have been looking at older homes ( 1970's Ranch style) in Brunswick Ga. We are looking in older neighborhoods off of hwy 17 near FLETC. Does anyone know what the neighborhoods are like, particularly the ones that border the the golf course / country club that is being renovated on Hwy 17. We are looking to purchase a second home to renovate and retire to. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Looking at any neighborhoods in particular? Price ranges?

Generally speaking those are good neighborhoods. A lot of the 30-something crowd with a little extra money burning a hole in their pocket are moving into new construction, so that will leave some good deals in the area you're looking.

I have a friend in that area and she LOVES how convenient they are to shopping, St. Simons, etc. Those neighborhoods feel very quaint and homey when you get into them, but they are VERY close to everything you need.

You've seen that the Brunswick Country Club is getting a multi-million dollar renovation. That'll certainly help housing values in that area.

Brunswick is a buyer's market right now......

Default Thank you ,Thank you ,Thank you ,Pinkmartini

Thanks Pinkmartini. We are looking for something less than 200K that needs a little updating. Looking to relocate in 5-7 years in order to start my second career on the coast. (I have no more love for Atlanta or it's Shang Ra La like suburbs) Or as we affectionately refer to it as Hell with crime and traffic congestion as added bonuses. Been thinking about Brunswick for years. Once again thanks for the response

Have you found houses in that price range? I know the older houses in Old Town and Winsor Park are priced at $250K+ for a 1800 sq.ft., 60 y.o. house!!! CRAZY!!! They're not selling very fast though....surely the market will correct itself soon.

I bet you can stumble on a good deal though. You'll just have to keep your eyes open. I don't know if any of the Marshes of Mackay houses are in that range, but that's a nice older area as well.

You'll love Brunswick. It's so cliche, but everyone down here is just "so nice"....and they really are.

I agree with you about Atlanta. I lived there about 15 years ago and I'm thankful everytime I drive through that I don't live there anymore.

Default Relocation to FLETC from NJ

Hey, y'all! My husband was offered a job at FLETC in Brunswick and we are SO excited! He got to spend several weeks in the area when to help out the previous employer when they had the contract, and now that it was awarded to another employer, they are looking for him to fill the position. He said it's very nice, and I've done a lot of searching online about the area.
If anyone is a FLETC transplant or a Yankee and willing to share their "If I knew then what I know now" stories, it would be greatly appreciated.
It's currently 2 days before Christmas, and we are looking at a January start date.
Merry Christmas and see y'all soon!
