We are considering a move to Georgia to be with my brother and sister-in-law. They live in Villa Rica, we no nothing about the area except that the home prices seem almost too good to be true. Can anyone tell me anything about this area...especially about the schools. I was online tonight and looking up the schools in the area and was scared to find out most all of the public schools were below state average and not making yearly progress. I have one child entering middle school and one child entering high school. Any information about this area/town will help me. We are moving from Phoenix(Chandler), Arizona.

Hi! We live in the Paulding County side of Villa Rica. It's actually considered New Georgia. It's a growing community with very parent-oriented elementary school. I have 2 daughters that are there, one in kindergarten and one in 1st. By the end of kindergarten, my 1st daughter knew OVER 100 sight words and could read most blend words.

I was VERY impressed with the teachers and could not of been happier. If you would like more information you can visit their school website at Paulding County Board of Education.

The high school for the area is Paulding County High School: Paulding County High School - Home of the Patriots and the middle school is South Paulding: home

One of the neatest ideas for both schools is their online intranet to check in on your child's daily grades so that you can monitor if they turned in their homework or what they made on their last class.
Best of luck!

I had to stop and think about how much my 2 cents is worth in regards to your question. I decided to share since just a few months ago I was in your position and welcomed any info I could get. We just moved to GA about a month ago. I had researched the schools in Villa Rica as well as some of the bordering towns. I have to agree that after researching the schools in Villa Rica my husband and I were in agreement that it was not an option. I used some really great web sites that offer not only statistics and test scores but also parent reviews, various ratings scales, teacher training and experience levels and demographics. I paid close attention to whether or not a school had made the AYP in the current year and past years. I've noticed that recent redistricting of schools can really affect test scores as well. It may be worth your while to see if redistricting takes place on a regular basis.

Anyway, the web sites I liked to use were schoolmatters.com, greatschools.net, Georgia Department of Education and Sperlings Best Places web site may have some valuable information. I hope this information was helpful and best wishes!
