Why are there no references to square footage on any houses in Georgia?
Somebody must have sued somebody for a ton-o-cash!

Its state law here. Seems kind of stupid to me but I'm guessing you are right. Somebody sued and somebody's buddy was in the legislature.

Yep. I don't believe that it's actually a state law that you can't quote square footage. What I believe happened is someone sued for fraud or something like that because the square footage wasn't what was represented. So, now no one quotes square footage on the contracts. But, you can if you want to.

It's not a law in Georgia, its merely the fact that few people actually know the exact footage of any property; so to avoid the aformentioned law suits people just don't saw anything!

Isn't an appraisal needed to fund a loan? And aren't appraisals partially based on (and therefore include) the square footage?

Sq footage is not mention as I have been told(to my inquiry) becuase of suits...good guess. They can however estimate(based on taxes) with no guaretee unitl you have a assesment or inspection to tell you for a fact that the estimation is correct. You can call local city halls and get the information if you really need it. Its on the tax records. I have been asking the same question myself.

I was told by a realtor that it is in fact a law...I am taking his take on this . I would assume he knows the laws of GA real estate. This post is based on what I have been told by two seperate realtors in GA....Good Luck...Lisa

I've been told by multiple real estate agents that it is against state law to list the square footage on a listing. I've also been told that they find it extremely annoying because they have to look up the sf on tax records to figure out what something is worth and they really wish they could list it.

Unfortunately when we moved here and started to look, none of the neighborhoods were available through Zillow so that's not always an option.
