From what state are you moving? It took me a few years to get used to the way of life here. When someone would wave at us when we were in the front yard, I realized I didn't necessarily knew them, they were just being neighborly. I love the winters here. Summers can be exasperating. But, we do have a pool. Folks driving skills here are, how do I put this, well, everyone thinks they are NASCAR wanna-be's. One tip, if you are moving from snow country do not get rid of your winter clothes. In no time at all, your blood will thin and you will no longer be laughing at the people who wear gloves, hats and winter coats when it's just above freezing, you in time will fit right in.

It depends on what part of GA you are moving to. The coast around Savannah to Brunswick is an entirely different world from the North Georgia area. And both are different from the Atlanta metro area. Different people, different economic strata and, as far as I know, even a different political slant.

Very humid on the coast. The southwest section is also not like the other parts. Some nice little towns. Hot and dry. They are having serious drought problems now.

Default Which area?

Hi Mattswife,
It depends on which area of the state you are moving to. Georgia is the largest state east of the Mississippi and some of everything.

Typically, GA doesn't have hurricanes, heavy snowfall, tornadoes or floods. Not to say we haven't had ANY - they just aren't real common in the state. We do have drought and specific watering days and burning bans, but nothing you can't live with.

Winters are usually mild. In east-central GA, we break down and wear a coat up to maybe 5 days a year. Mostly it is sweater weather. We *might* get snow, but if anything, we get ice. And be prepared - the first mention of snow or ice, schools close and everyone goes to the store for milk and bread. We are not equiped to drive down here in the snow and ice. Summers are HOT and sweltering. It is the humidity that makes it so hot. Air conditioning is a must. We do have four nice seasons though.

People are nice and friendly. They'll wave whether they know you or not and they'll talk to you in line in the grocery store. The state really isn't much of a big crime area except for maybe Atlanta.

The nicest thing about GA is that you have everything all in one state. We have mountains AND seashore! And it doesn't take that long to get anywhere. Welcome. Georgia is a great place to live.
