Hello, I am from Illinois ,and have been thinking about moving to Georgia, for the past several yrs.. I have no family, out there, nor friends. I know absolutely no one. I was wondering where in Gerogia is a good place to live? I know every location has its good and bad, but i would like to find a lower crime area neighborhood that is family friendly, with good elementary schools, that is racially diversed. Also, I would prefer closer to Atl, maybe 45-60 minutes away at the furthest. If anyone knows of any areas can you please let me know. Thank you very much, and all input is greatly appreciated it.

i hope you have a job lined up first of all, i think i would try to live as close as possible to my place of work because traffic down here makes one suicidal and MARTA is not smarter...

Off the top of my head I would say Kennesaw, Dunwoody, Downtown Decatur. Thats all I can think of but I'm sure you will get some more input.

I'm also in Illinois, planning to relocate to Georgia. I took a trip to the Dahlonega area (NW Mountains) and absolutely fell in love. I've been to ATL as well, and while it has a lot to offer, including what I think is a wonderful transit system, I want something away from the crowds.

The Dahlonega and Jasper areas had some really affordable homes in nice neighborhoods. So many will have about an acre - and if you want a larger or smaller piece of land, they're available. What struck me about my visit (we spent about a week) was how incredibly friendly and helpful everyone is.

If you decide to take a look around, I would have no problem in recommending the folks at United Country Realtors in Talking Rock, GA. Lydia is awesome, a longtime resident of the area and very helpful. I can't wait to finally make the move.

Ms. MJ ... I had to smile over your comment about MARTA. I'm not a transit user as such, but found it to be cleaner and easier to use than the Metra here in Chicago.

Tasha, Ms. MJ's insight is far more valuable than mine on this point - but as a visitor, I was impressed by it.

We chose our dream retirement home on a very quiet lake (High Falls Lake) in a state park (High Falls State Park), and it's only about 40 minutes to the airport and 45 minutes to Atlanta or Macon. It's fantastic, because we can have the peaceful country feel, but we're only 4 minutes away from a store, gas station, and I-75. We love it here, but one family crisis after another occurred, and now we must sell. (Your Page Title)

I'm simply amazed at people who think they want to move somewhere based upon what they read on an internet forum, yet they have never been to the place, have no family there, and have no job.

Easy there pardner. Everyone is different. How about we be welcoming and leave the judgements out? I come in peace.

That's the beauty of America. People can get a dream and just follow it. Will it work out or turn into a nightmare? Who knows, but I refuse to live in a country where anything isn't possible.
