Anyone familiar with Burt's Farm in Dawsonville? Wanting to go pumpkin picking this weekend/take a drive through the mountains and it seems nice. Anyone have any other recommendations for pumpkin patches/farms in the mountains? I'm coming from Atlanta if that helps. Thanks!

Well, I haven't lived in ATL since 2002, so not sure how things have changed at Burt's. Our last visit was Oct 2001 on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. They had a TON of pumpkins, gourds, baked goods, and people. I swear that half of Atlanta was there that day. We had a good time, as did our daughter, but when the line for the hayride had an hour-long wait, we decided to go. It's a lovely drive and the farm is HUGE, but be prepared for the crowds.

We went last year with my nephew. They have the largest pumpkins I have ever seen! So, make sure you bring a car that has a lot of space if you catch the big pumpkin bug. They have wheelbarrows because you need them! Maybe the leaves will be changing so that your drive will be quite scenic. They have baked goods (don't go hungry because you will buy everything ) like pumpkin rolls, bread, and other fall goodies. They had some hayride but it was rainy and we decided to pass on that. They have all sorts of squash and small pumpkins, baking pumpkins, etc. Take a camera because it is a great place to take fall pictures. I would get there early as it does get busy and if you end up getting a large pumpkin, you don't want to roll it up a hill to the overflow parking. That is the pumpkin patch that everyone rants and raves about...I don't know of any others but since you are so close to Anna Ruby falls, (Unicoi State Park) you might as well visit that state park too. It was neat to see. You may even drive that extra bit of distance to go to Elijay which is the Apple Capital apparently. They have several Apple Picking farms that sell canned jams and jellies as well as your staple apple foods. I can't remember the name of the farm we visited but it seems to be the most well known - maybe hill something? Regardless, it should be a lot of fun for you.

Good Luck!!

I have heard nothing but good things about this place. And the pictures I have seen on facebook definitely make it look like it's worth checking out. I made the mistake of going to Cagles Family Farm in Canton... Total let down! Good luck!

Default It is near Amicalola, not Unicoi State Park

We live about 20 minutes from there. Burt's is just around the corner from Amicalola and the approach trail to the Southern Terminus of the Appalachian Trail. Terrific water falls. This week and next will be peak for leaves. Burt's is a treat, but oh the crowds.
