One of my friends got a job in Blairsville. After going to meet him I discovered a little gem called Hiawasse Georgia. Anybody got any info on this place. I am a hydrologist and my wife and I were originally going to move to Vegas, but after seeing this place we have a change of heart. If anybody knows about the area give us the scoop.

I like the area because of the access to the mountains and hiking etc. What exactly attracts you to this area?

My wife and I have a vacation home there and it is wonderful small town.Do a google search on it for more info.I love it because it has alot of golf nearby, mountains, plenty of lakes also. Its 2 hours from Atl., Chatanooga, or Asheville,NC. Also close to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.

Hiawassee is beautiful. I guess I would never consider moving to Vegas, but I would consider Hiawassee over most other towns in the US, and in the world for that matter. However, if I could afford something on Lake Burton, just down the road, that would be my 1st choice - of course, I'll have to win the lottory first.

Can anyone elaborate on "a lot of golf nearby" ? Just what does that mean? How many courses in a 10-15 mile radius? Any information on the rates? Do they offer Sr Rates?

Alot of golf is approx. 10 or so in a twenty mile radius. To be honest Im not exactly sure, but just an educated guess based on the ones I know.Every course I have played offers senior rates and some have ladies days also.

I am a life long resident of Hiawassee and its a great place to be able to live. There are so many nooks and crannys that most people riding thru dont know that they even exist. Lakes, mountains, rivers, creeks, and 4 distinct seasons make it unique. Also, 2/3's of Towns Co is owned either by USFS or TVA so Hiawassee can only get so big. Only 1/3 of the land is privately owned and that makes Hiawassee a perfect product of supply and demand with a balanced appreciation rate in property values. Towns Co has the lowest millage rate in the state and that helps to keep property taxes low. Great place to live or visit. Rmc..........
