So this is what I am looking for in a town if anyone can help

1. small town near a body of water or the ocean
2. at least an hour away from a large city
3. population below 40,000
4. relatively safe ( I know everywhere has crime)
5. decent schools
6. older homes

That's about all I can think of for the moment...

If anyone can point me in a direction of a few different towns that I can research more it would be so great!
Thanks in advance for any replies.

As far as coastal towns: Brunswick or St. Marys.

Brunswick: Savannah is an hour to the north and Jacksonville, FL is 45 min. to the south. It's on the coast (Jekyll Island and St. Simons Island are in the same county). You'll find a beautiful downtown and historic district of old homes. The school system is less desirable than St. Marys, but it's moving to a magnet system, so you'll be able to go to the more desirable schools if you choose. There is a clustered area in the heart of town that I wouldn't walk through at night; otherwise, I consider Brunswick and Glynn County to be a very safe area.

St. Marys: 30 min. south of Brunswick. About 30 min. north of Jacksonville, FL. It is a coastal town but doesn't have beaches....only a marina. Good schools. Low crime. I'm not sure about the older homes. I'm inclined to say that you'd find more in Brunswick.
