Thanks everybody for your input. I found a small townhome on Cabaret Court in Marietta, and another on Turnberry lane, that I am trying to decide between. Both were clean and reasonably priced. I cant really tell what the neighborhood is like. It was quiet enough. I would have liked to have been able to go at night so I can really see what it's like when the street lights come on. I will also check Brooke Mill. Thanks BobK!

If those are your only choices....I am familiar with Cabaret Court. It's in a somewhat lower class area near a park. This area, especially below Powder Springs, is where a lot of illegals live. The shopping center on Sandtown is all Spanish. There is a trailer park on Sandtown as well. Travel on Powder Springs going to KSU will be stop and go until you get to Cobb Pkwy. It could be an hour to work, unless you take the backroads.

On the plus side, Chattahoochee Tech is also on Sandtown. Also, the area between Chestnut Hill and Whitlock (behind the Cabaret Court) seems like a fairly nice area where the houses always seem well kept. Can't speak for your townhomes though. If you travel west on Powder Springs to the East-West Connector, you will hit a lot of shopping and dining.

As for Turnberry, I would not live anywhere near that area of Delk Road. Forget that it is close to the freeway. This is a high crime area. I would definitely take the Cabaret over that. Remember, your kids are going to go to school with kids from the general area too. Even if Turnberry Lane is wonderful, the surrounding area is not.

In general, if you want safer and nicer, go farther north, well above Powder Springs. Your schools near Cabaret Court may be burdened with more Spanish -speaking kids, but it's a better area. Do check out any leads you have north of KSU.

Hello all. Just wanted to give an update: I chose the townhouse on Cabaret Court and I've been there a little over a month. So far, I like it. The neighborhood is very quiet, the neighbors seem nice enough. There are a lot of Hispanics in the area, but that doesn't bother me at all (I grew up in Phoenix). But my little cul-de-sac is very diverse, which I love....It only takes me about 45 minutes to get to work, and that includes a stop to drop off my toddler at daycare. I take the back roads and I'm driving against the flow of traffic, so I'm blessed. My oldest daughter won't be here until the end of summer so it'll give me some time to check out the schools in the area. I've heard that both Cobb County and Marietta City Schools are pretty good schools, especially compared with the public school system in Atlanta. Thanks all for your input!

I am glad to hear this story ended well. It is daunting sometimes to pick a place to live in an area you have not lived. I hope you like the Atlanta area and your job at KSU.
