Anyone know the current status of the Biomass energy facility in Valdosta? Go or no go? Also, I am curious from what direction the wind typically comes in the Valdosta area. Thanks for your help.

Question SouthGeorgia, Newsboy? Biomass Incenerator?

You both seem knowledgeable about things Valdosta. Do you know anything about or care to comment on the Biomass burner being planned?

The biomass plant has not been approved yet, but groundbreaking for a nearby solar plant (the largest in the state) happened just last week. The biomass plant is very controversial in Valdosta but, so far is "moving toward approval". I guess we'll see in the coming weeks. As for winds, the general flow is from the West, but more often than not, the winds are actually from the Southwest bringing humid air from the Gulf. Exceptions are during droughts and cold spells when winds come from the Northeast thanks to strong High Pressure. I hope this is useful!

GAStudent: The info was helpful. I'm not smart enough to make a judgement one way or the other, but thinking about moving there, it gives me pause.

i feel like the biomass plant is going to be approved. the industrial authority really wants this to happen, and so do many prominent citizens.

most of the opposition is being fueled by individuals who have no ties to valdosta.

the majority of people here don't care one way or another.

How many jobs would the Biomass plant create and how many jobs are being created from the Solar project?

I seen newspaper reports of the employee count for the biomass plant as 20 -30, w average (?) pay around $20, which if burdened (taxes, benefits, etc) means around $12 - $13 p hour. Don't know about the solar project.
