I am an experienced educator considering relocating to Georgia with my husband. It is more or less the in between point for our families. Ideally, I want to find a progressive school system with opportunities to advance (completing my PhD in Education Administration) in horse friendly area.
Any thoughts are appreciated.

If I was you, I would check out Houston county, Burke county, and Cherokee county. They are nice, have great local supplements, and your students will not kill you. Also, you can definitely find nice sized residencies which would accomodate your horse.

Lightbulb Try out Pierce County, GA!!!

It will all depend on where your husband will be working. If you like the laid back lifestyle, Southeast Georgia would be your best bet. There are farmlands and beautiful trees galore! In the Patterson, GA area, the elementary school has received the Blue Ribbon School of Excellence award. All of the Pierce County schools are great. If I'm not mistaken, each one of them has achieved AYP status. (I think that's the name of the status...can't remember!) All in all...a great place to work and live!!!

I'd say Cherokee or Pickens Counties in N. Ga.
Expanding population means lots of brand-new schools, plus Pickens Tech. and Reinhardt College in Waleska. It's 50-60 miles to downtown Atlanta, which means somewhere between 1 hour 15 min and 3 hour drive, depending on traffic.

The good thing is, unless you work in Atlanta, you won't have to go there often.

Horses - yep, should be no problem, whether you keep your own or want to board them. And you probably won't need to wear body armor to class, either.
