We are finally residents of Georgia. We got here Monday and people are extremely nice(not used to that in pathetic PA)!!! Anyways..... I was wondering what are some of the best festivals to attend in South and maybe Middle GA? Tomorrow we are going to go check out the Azalea Festival here in pretty Valdosta. We already went out today and did the walking/driving tour of Valdosta and seen some wonderful history and buildings in town. Geeze, living down here is going to be like being on vacation all the time! So.... is there a 'catch' to all these overly nice people and scenery? What do I need to be leery of? Oh, I forgot..... the festivals, anyone?

Not real close to Valdosta, but Savannah is known as "The Festival City" for the abundance of special events held here. From now right on through the fall, there will literally be a festival or two or THREE every weekend. For information:

Also, we are planning on checking out that Rose Fest in Thomasville next month. We went to Quitman, Boston, and Thomasville today and did the walking tour of T-ville. It was absolutely awesome. T-ville is one of the prettiest towns I have ever been to. Better yet- most of South GA is downright awesome, with what we have toured so far. We are touring all of South GA plus North Fla., since we just moved to Valdosta. Sunday we toured Lakeland and Homerville. Grand Bay and Banks Lake were both great! Our next trip is Hamilton County Florida. Do any of you have any advice on that county?

I've heard of Savannah being known as "The Hostess City of the South", but never heard a reference to it being "The Festival City"

^^^ When you come down the escalators from the terminal gates to the baggage claim level at Savannah Intl Airport, there are banners hanging overhead and along the side walls that tout the city's many festivals. Last weekend was the Savannah Stopover Festival (a preview event for Austin's huge SxSW music festival) and the Tara Feis Festival. This weekend, of course, is the St. Patrick's Day Festival (600,000 people expected for Thursday's parade). Next weekend begins the 14-day Savannah Music Festival, which last year was named the top arts events in North America by the Times of London. And on and on and on ....

Oh, Honey, I KNOW what you mean, since we just moved from Ohio last year. We are in Savannah and loving the climate, the pulse, and everything (except the summer months), but nothing is perfect. I know nothing of Valdosta, but I suspect that those who complain about whatever they complain about, have never spent an unrelenting winter in OH or PA. We'll just sit out on our warm, sunny porches and think fondly of those poor saps.
