Hello,

We're thinking about moving to Blairsville, GA. Anyone know anything about the area?

I suppose you've already been to the Blairsville website. All I can say is the scenic photos don't seem to have been retouched. It is that nice in real life.

The weather is good (4 seasons), and if you enjoy hiking, photography, horseback riding, or golf, you'll stay busy. Food, hardware and building materials are easy to find, Saks or Macy's and similar are not. Crime is very low (but I'll bet you already knew that).

Housing - I'm assuming here you'd want something you wouldn't be ashamed to invite visitors in - is going to run $180k to whatever you want. With a lot of luck, you might find an older home for less.
Bare acreage, $20k up.

You can drive to Atlanta in under 2 hours, sometimes.
AMTRAK about 1 hr. away in Toccoa or Gainesville.

A good place to raise kids, and there are several small but good colleges in the area as well.

What 'nice' Blairsville site... can you share the web address? I'd like to see it, thanks!

Thanks IRVM.

I appreciate your response. Currently we live in Colorado Springs. We need to move closer to family. My wife has a requirement to be able to go to a restaurant that is not attached to a gas station. And,- I need to put a boat in the water. This looks like a really nice place to live.

Hello Phyllis,

Thank you for your reply. I will be flying to Atlanta, and driving to Blairsville to see for myself real soon.

Any advice on a Real Estate agent with integrity? I use the internet and come up with 10 homes and a couple of lots that I wish to see. Every time I give an agent my requirements, they pay no attention to them, hold me captive in their car, and show me what they want to show me.

It really gets frustrating.

Edd

I have to say I totally love the area of the state that Blairsville is in. We are up there every chance that we get and are in the area for about a week or more every summer .

My suggestion to you if you can afford to do this is to fly out , rent a car for a week or so, find a place to rent for the time and just drive the area and see what for sale listings you find you like that way. Then call the agents that are listing them. This way you'll get a feel for the area as well as seeing the actual properties available.

Vogel state park is a beautiful place to be based while you are doing this though reservations this time of the year and esecially durring October can tough to come by because it is a very popular park durring the fall.
