How would you compare the ATL humidity to New York...Is it about the same...or is it milder?

Atlanta can have some extremely high/sticky humidity in the hotter months. Lighter clothing an a dehumidifier are almost a necessity. People are surprised to see how humid NYC can get if they're never been there - but it's worse here and for a longer period. Less so in North Georgia, even more near Savannah.

This, ATL is worse than NYC for several reasons, we are inland and don't get gentle sea breezes to help move the air around like NYC, our only relief is T-storms and even then aftwards it goes right back to unbearably sticky.

Its been a while since Ive been in NY, but in the city itself, I found it to be worse than the city of Atlanta. Once outside the city, NY would be my choice, as stated above, the breezes to seem to help. It will be near 100 degrees here in Atlanta, dump an inch of rain in less than an hour, clear up, right back to 100 degrees, and more stagnant moisture just hanging out.

Now, If Im just relaxing on the porch, I can deal with it, but getting out to mow the lawn or something, it sucks. Im also about 35 miles east of atlanta in the county settings with tons of grass and trees that tend to make the air feel a little cooler.

Humidity is worst here in Atlanta because it stay humid the whole summer. In NYC you can't go out in during Winter due to the extreme cold, in Atlanta you can't go out in the summer due to the extreme humidity.

The humidity in Atlanta is not THAT extreme. Go visit places like Orlando, New Orleans & Houston. Then let's talk about humidity.

June
Atlanta: 64
New York: 57
July
Atlanta: 68
New York: 62
August

New York: 62

thanks guys..Last time we were down there in april...(buckhead)...the temps were in the 50's and I reallly didnt feel the humidity. So is it just the summer months of June-august...or is the entire year humid?

Speaking of sitting on the porch....how are the mosquitos during the evening hours...do they come out as well?

humidity CAN be high any time of year but is largely kept down by Atlanta's 1000 ft. elevation and is only uncomfortable for several weeks during the summer when the heat index is also high.

Bugs exist, of course, but evenings are usually quite pleasant (if a bit warm) during the summer and mosquitoes are not as much of a problem in the city.

Air conditioning. Ice tea. Screened porches with ceiling fans. Those 3 bust the humidity problem quickly.

I've never understood why anyone buys a house with an open deck. Worthless here in the deep south. Screened porches people! I never see anyone using their deck other than to rush out and grill something and then rush back inside.
