My wife and I want to move away from the beach and would really like to find a small, quaint town that has fresh air, isn't too hot or to cold, that is not to far from a VA medical hospital/clinic or a Walmart (where she is employed).
We would love to find a little town like "Mayberry", if such a place still exists.
We were thinking of maybe up around the Taccoa area.
We will only be renting a home.

Any suggestions?

Used to drive up to Toccoa for work about 10 years ago. Found people there unfriendly and insular. Cornelia, GA was much friendiler.

Only thing I know about Toccoa is the Baptist Convention Center that's there. Also if you want to look up homes in the area, make sure you spell it Toccoa, not Taccoa.

Hey, I live in Toccoa. I don't know what the deal with the unfriendly and insular comment was. I have lived here all my life and we are as friendly as any place I have ever been. Yes, there are always problems anywhere you go; but, Toccoa is what you make it.

As for the Walmart, we have one of the largest Super Wal-Marts in the country. You know how they are. They have to make each one a little bigger. The VA hospital I go to is on Clairmont Road in Decatur, GA (Atlanta). It is 88 miles away which translates to about an hour and a half on mostly split 4 lane and highway roads.

If you are still looking for your "Mayberry", look into Toccoa. We have a lot to offer.

Thank you for the info. We plan on driving up there in Sept to look around.
Can you tell me about how much we can expect to rent a decent, small, two bedroom house or maybe a decent townhouse?
I can't find much in the online newspaper.
Thanks.
