thanks for this advice guys. I am going to look into the suggestd counties for next school year. I am actually living i the viring islands but I taught baltimore/dc for seven years. I really do not want to be stuck in a school that hs not met AYP because then you are drilled over and over about student achievement andyou end up focusing on teacihing to thetests instead of teaching skills. I need to be in a high acheiving schools where things are already established and we are not reinventing the wheel.

As far as living areas, I mean best places to raise a family and low crime. any suggestions?

Coming from a Union State, you will not be happy down here! You will be expected to do many, many things you are not expected to do in the north. There is so much paperwork down here and no time to fill it out. You will feel like big brother is always watching you. You will be required to attend many evening events. You will be expected to give up your planning time. You will be expected to eat lunch with the students. You will work more and teach less! You will resort to worksheets because you have so much to do and very little planning time. You will speak up and ask questions and make suggestions because you know there is a better way. And no one will listen. You will hate it, and think about other careers constantly. You will become snappy with the children because you have assessments to give and data to enter. Teaching in Gwinnett County is a joke!

What do you teach?

It's been mentioned, but I would consider Forsyth county schools some of the best in the state. The high schools are all great, with South Forsyth being the standout. There is generally a long list of teachers waiting to get into the district because it has one of the highest salaries in the area (but don't quote me on it, I have no stats to back it up, it's just what I've heard). Also there isn't really a problem with gangs and violence there is in many schools even in North Fulton- just a lot of spoiled latchkey kids.

Many metro-north areas are great in terms of schools- as other people have mentioned. I don't know much about other areas around the metro area.

Default Fayette County Schools

I am not a teacher, but do have 3 children in the Fayette County School System. I am very pleased with the district. Everyone always talks about Cobb County, but they forget about traffic and congestion. I find it much more relaxed down here and the teachers are very caring. Starrs Mill and McIntosh are some of the best high schools in the state.

Hope this helps. You can visit my website for more information if you would like. www.lisabyer.com
