The South is alive and well in Georgia from what I've experienced! I know many, many, natives of Georgia who have generations of families living here as well. Most of them have welcomed others to the state with true southern hospitality.

Georgia is growing...the schools have definately gotten better in many areas....and with the Hope Scholarship, a lot of the students are choosing to go to college here and many stay after they graduate.

Default The South is Not Dead

I've been in Georgia for 47 years. We live just outside metro Atlanta in Hall County and you can still find the charm of a small town here. I grew up in Savannah and this reminds me of Savannah when I was younger. Everyone knows everyone. You call the utilitiy companies and still talk to real people. The bankers will loan you money on your reputation. Sounds like old times, but it's true. The smaller towns are still alive and well and offer that Southern hospitality you are looking for.

We do have a lot of people from other areas coming and may be outnumbered, but we'll just have to keep trying to make them slow down a little and learn how to enjoy what we have to offer.

To me it seems the ole South is dead. Georgia is much like Florida. Very few natives and mostly transplants, at least in the Atlanta area.

So for all you posters here. Are you Georgia natives? If not, where? And how long in GA?

Me, I'm a native West "By God" Virginia native and have lived in, thanks to my job transfers:

New Jersey 2times
Virginia 2 times
Illinois
Maryland
Tennessee
and Georgia since 2004.

Default Native Ga Gal!

Born in Waycross, lived 39 yrs in Albany/lee county. Parents born in Americus, grandparents born and lived in various parts of GA entire lives. Most relatives in one glorious GA place or another! Moving soon to Chickamauga, GA. Yep, I guess I am officially a native Georgian! Love the Dawgs, Adore the Braves! Remember watching the braves on the tv at Granny's house - she was SUCH a fan! Doesn't get much better than this!

(However, I did meet this handsome alabama boy, married him, now HE is a GA boy!! LOL)

I do understand the thought that the old southern ways are gone, but I really believe that true southern charm is a state of mind and of being genteel, gracious, welcoming, and a bit fiesty when it's called for!
