I have been looking into places in georgia and found the rome area and really need to know if it is a place to move to. If not where else. Without the large population and would love a pretty downtown Plus work.

Best Places to Retire magazine gave Rome one of its top marks for having a nice small town downtown area in a recent issue. Overall it's an ok town, and you have a location that is not *IN* Atlanta but close enough that you can take advantage of the Atlanta retail market for shopping, etc. Since technically it's part of the "extended" Atlanta metro area, work can be found in the area around Rome if you can't find anything in the city itself.

The only thing that bothers some people is the heat. The way Rome kinda sits in a bowl-like area and with the rivers, it's always 5+ degrees hotter and more humid than most of the area in the summer. Crime isn't a huge problem there, although last weekend vandals did go through the entire downtown area and busted out windows and doors on 19 businesses!
