In your opinion, is in-town LaGrange good for a weekend home? I am from Dunwoody, GA north of Atlanta, and like small walk around towns like Marietta and Roswell. I think it would be nice to buy an in-town small second home in a downtown area like this, but that is also close to a lake to dock a boat. It seems LaGrange is a perfect mix of this, but it seems that the downtown neighborhoods might not be as safe, or could be sliding down a bit? For example, I am eying something on Broad St. in LaGrange, where the surrounding home conditions and values seem to be down. I am in lots of ethnically diverse situations and have no questions/concerns about that aspect as long as nice part of town, but want to avoid any greater possibility of crime, drugs, sketchiness when picking an area. I apologize in advance that I have not visited the area recently to see for myself, but plan on it soon.

Thanks for any insights,
Bryan

Hi Bryan, just seeing this post. Broad St is in a nice older area of our downtown. Home values may be lower along that street due to age and that is a major thoroughfare through town, so lots of traffic. You could certainly walk to the "Square" and find dining, movies, shoppping, and business activities. Major grocery shopping would require a car in most cases, although in the spring and summer months there are a few neighborhood farmer's markets and CSA dropoffs in that area.
