Yeah, fear is a Great reason to not have personal integrity, and to overlook the complete Lack of integrity others demonstrate.

I think not. It's not "snitching", which implys something shady and underhanded. It's being a respectful, law abiding citizen who hates to see criminals breaking the law.


BUT, do give some advanced thought before jumping on another person. A full time student can not become a legal state resident, so you CAN watch someone legally drive around for 4~8 years on out of state or out of county plates.

Yes. There is a reason for the bold type. I have a vision issue and the bold type assists me in seeing the screen.

And if it were not the case, what possible difference does it make? I wish every poster would use bold which would make reading much easier for me.

Ollie, I understand your reason, but just so you know.... BOLD and/or capitalized type represents shouting or a forceful expression in "Internet speak" so you should understand that people unaware of your vision constraints may take it that way.

Just a little suggestion for ya. The web browser I use, called Opera, there is a slider on the bottom right hand corner and you can set the text to be larger or even huge or you can make it smaller. Other browsers may have this too, but having the slider makes is easy. You might give it a try.

Why not adjust the settings of your browser to use a font which is easier for you to read?

Can't blame anyone for doing what they can to avoid this tax.

If you drive a nicer car you can easily end up "owing" the county more than a grand every year. No thanks, I'll register it elsewhere.

It would have to be a very nice car, since we've already determined in another recent thread that the Ad Valorem tax tends to be around 1% of value. If you can afford a $100k car, what's a $1k payment once a year?

It's over $900 more than you would pay in neighboring Fla or Tenn.

If it were just the Ad V, that'd be one thing, but there's additional costs. You still have to pay the reg fees and in the metro counties you have to do the emissions test which costs even more money.

Having researched what other states are doing lately, I'll admit, it can be much, much worse. It can be like NC where not only is there ad v it comes as a separate bill, there's a myriad of other fees. You have to have an e-test AND a safety inspection, both with their respective fees.

I know the law is going to be changing with regards to GA ad v, but I'd honestly rather have the ad v than the title tax.

Why would you want that? Do you understand that the new tax replaces BOTH the sales tax and the ad valorem tax.

So if you buy a car now, you pay 6% (Cobb), 7% (Fulton, Dekalb), or 8% (City of Atlanta) at the time you purchase the vehicle, and then you pay the ad valorem tax annually.

With the new law, you pay a one time 7% and then nothing. No matter what the price of your car or where you live, you will come out better if you keep the car at least one year.

That's great. What if you're moving in from another state and have already paid sales tax?
