I just moved and had to present at least four means of id, depending on how they rated each one, to get my new license. I knew ahead of time about the new Federal rules, so I brought everything I could think of. Put them all on the counter and the MVD lady thumbed through them and picked out her four favorites including my American Express card which was used to pay for the transactions.

Only a "bad" person would have a problem with this!
I could see it being annoying if you'd lived here for a while, weren't aware of the new rules, and had just spent a few hours standing in line only to find you didn't have the required paperwork.

Well, if you lived wherever for awhile, and from what I gather, Americans spend all day on an internet capable computer and all night watching TV, how could you not know? This is not a state thing, it's your Federal Government that is mandating these measures.

Surely the good citizens of this country make a supreme effort to absorb any and all information emanating from their Federal Government. Surely they do not sit back and let their government slowly but inexorably, ratchet their lives down to a drone state.

Surely not!

Huh.

Well, I still say it's strange that they're implementing this in an election year. Now if we didn't have the voter ID dilemma, then this wouldn't be as big of an issue.

750,000 driver licenses are up for renewal in 2012.

It has nothing to do with being an election year. The full restrictions of the Real ID Act go into effect on January 2013 unless it has been delayed again. The state is just trying to get into compliance with the law.
