The urban core of Atlanta has experienced years of urban decay and is now slowly building back in addition to separate cities such as Alpheretta, Sandy Springs and Decator wanting nothing to do with Atlanta.

Atlanta is a very low density city with a average population density of 3,190 people per square mile and has a very suburban character to it even in many parts of the city itself.
The city of Atlanta has 132 square miles & a 2010 population of 420,000.
By contrast Philidelphia has 135 square miles with 1.5 million people with a average density of 11,457 people per square mile.
Atlanta could probably hold more than double it's current population.

Compare the Atlanta MSA to a similar MSA....Boston. Almost identical in the actual city population versus the population of surrounding towns and cities.

This is the Georgia room, not the Atlanta room. However, variations of this topic have been discussed before in the Atlanta room. Please do a search in that room and add comments to them. Thank you.
