Statesboro overall but Dublin has an advantage being closer to Atlanta, Macon and not too far from Savannah. Statesboro's disadvantage is its location in my opinion with only one city (Savannah) near but I'd choose it because I'd rather live there than Dublin.

Neither really suits my "overall purpose" -- whatever that is -- but Statesboro is easily the better town. I could never live in the "Home of the Redneck Games."

Isn't that like asking, "Besides UGA, what does Athens offer?"

And they probably WERE about the same 50 years ago, when GSU was called Georgia Teachers College and occupied a small campus on the edge of town. Today, it's a Carnegie research university enrolling 21,000 students on a modern, sprawling campus built where cotton grew just 10 years ago.

GSU has transformed Statesboro into a true "college town." Not like Athens, of course, but it does remind me a lot of Auburn.

Dublin is rather depressing and impoverished, by comparison.

I've lived in Statesboro and will always love the area. It's got a wonderful small town feel. GSU is a great school and the campus is beautiful. It's close enough to Savannah and Augusta for shopping or just a getaway.

Dublin has its own appeal. It's also got that wonderful small town feel. Besides the redneck games they have a wonderful St Patricks Day celebration. They're close enough to Macon or Savannah for shopping or the occasional getaway.

They both have that nice rural, laid back atmosphere. Plenty of room to ride a bike or motorcycle, decent golf courses, fishing spots and hunting land. Hunting and fishing aren't my thing, but they can't be discounted for the quality of life improvement they provide. Both nice places to live if you're looking for small town America.

OH YEAH! One thing Dublin has over Statesboro: One of just TWO exits along the entire length of I-16 that has stuff -- gas, food, motels! The other one is in Metter.

Why that big huge Statesboro exit is so empty I'll never know.

So true. The development authority dropped the ball on that one.
