State Tax in Georgia? (Statesboro: homes, employment, purchases)

Does anyone know what the State Tax is in Georgia??

Trying to find out myself ... try the property appraiser web sites - they go by county ... looking to move from Boynton Beach to Statesboro , if I could get employment there.

I was pleased to learn that Georgia has very modest tax rates compared to other states. The state maintains low tax rates through a fiscally conservative government. The state has not changed the maximum corporate income tax rate, which is 6%, since 1969!

Sales tax - 6% (4% state, 2% local option) on purchases of most goods and some services. The tax on food items is 4%.

Personal income tax - On net (after deduction) federal taxable income is $340 on the first $10,000, straight 6% on the balance (married filing jointly or single head of household)

Property tax - Property taxes are assessed on 40% of the fair market value of the property. Applied to this amount are millage rates, which are levied by various governing authorities.

Umm, Janeqb. What does all that mean? I wish I had a degree in Mathematics. lol. Taxes are not my forte.

Property Taxes.... Are they paid biannually? On which months are they due? For instance, property taxes of $3,000.
$1,500 due in March - 1st installment
$1,500 due in October - 2nd installment... Is this the case?

state income up to 6%. The threshold is pretty low. So if you make any money, you will have to pay margin 6%.

There are two installments for county tax one installment tax for city.

County tax are due 10/1 and 11/1 and city tax is due 12/1

Food tax is the killer - I still can't get used to paying food tax, where in Florida there was none in the early 90's. Is there food tax now?

I don't know about state taxes that we file yearly, but I always have to pay something! I don't pay city tax.

Beware that some counties do not honor HOMESTEAD Exemtion unless you are over 65 and even then that isn't much.

If you file bankruptcy in Florida, you are homesteaded and no one can touch your home. In GA, they can nab it from you and force you to sell.

As you might can tell, I would rather not be in GA at this time, but am stuck.
