Any bulldogs fan would know, the Georgia Bulldogs and South Carolina Gamecocks have become an increasing tense rivalry over the years. Each year the location flips back and forth between Columbia and Athens. The only time it was located outside of the two cities was in 1901 when it was held in Augusta GA. Border Bash is a huge event held in Augusta each year before the game and it gives fan time to celebrate and get to know the players and staff, with that being said Paine College in Augusta is fielding a football for the 2014 season, and with the growth of GRUA, it to may eventually field a time. What is the possibility that if and when the necessary infrastructure is constructed, the game be permanently played in Augusta, just like the Florida, Georgia game in Jacksonville? I think it would be huge for not only the city of Augusta but both states as a whole. Any thoughts on the matter?

I doubt that it would be played there permanently, but every so often would be cool.

I just see what I like to call common sense investments. With Augusta having a large portion of its metro area in South Carolina, you see influences and fans from both states. I mean Athens is about 20 miles farther than Columbia is to Augusta, to me this a no brainier and something that should have been done decades ago.

The chances are exactly zero of this happening. Georgia/Florida in JAX already is a scheduling strain for both schools. McGarity is already upset that there are only 6 home games in 2013; if the SC game were in Augusta it would only be 5.

Uh ... wouldn't Augusta need a stadium first? One that seats at least 72,000 people?! For one football game a year?! LOL!

You Augusta people and your ridiculous pipe dreams slay me ...

Paine College is creating a football team, and DR. Azziz said GRU will have a complete roster of D-1 sports over the next decade. ASU is already playing D-1 in golf, etc.

Cal Ripken/Jim Jacoby want to build a mixed used development and multi-use stadium downtown.

The pipe dream would be getting the UGA/FLA game in Augusta, but future football games here aren't pipe dreams.

An Augusta stadium big enough to host a BCS-level college football game most certainly IS a pipe dream. Georgia Southern has been playing college football for 30-plus years and is still trying to figure out how to make the leap to BCS -- which requires at least doubling the size of their stadium.

If every college in Augusta started playing football tomorrow, it would take 30 years to build a program or fan base large enough to justify a stadium of the size you're taking about.

With growth and expansion comes amenities such as large facilities. With local business support anything is possible.
