Athens has a lot of public, subsidized housing. Also has a lot of crime for its size. Also has judges who set very low bail for thugs and it is a revolving door. Some 50 bars in town. Cater to students. Lots of crime involving students. Some advocate retiring into a university town. Better weigh pros and cons---plenty of both.

I agree with Ollie 100%. There is a TON of poverty and crime here. People constantly post apartment ads on Craigslist saying they're "convenient to downtown and campus!" Yeah, they're also off North Ave, which is NOT a place you want to live. Then you see the subsequent articles in the paper detailing how students were robbed coming home after a night of drinking. I cannot wait to leave this town.
