We are thinking about buying some land/small acreage in Burke County. Homebased small business and small kennel [less than 20 dogs, toy breeds all in their own enclosed buildings and in the home - no noise/stink etc], neither business is depending on local custom. Love gardening, having small life stock etc. Anybody have any suggestions or input?

We have a home in Liberty County and it is getting positively ridiculous to live there - taxes have nearly doubled in the last 3 yrs, now we're having $100+ water bills in the making, restrictions + penalties on water use etc. and the county is into everything - from what vegetables you grow in the garden to the kids sandbox being in the wrong location. Our lot is zoned agricultural but is close to the city limits there - and they have recently built a huge and most annoying subdivision behind our home with kids coming over the fence and hanging out in our storage buildings - doing the nasty etc.

What is rural Burke County like, and what are the longterm development plans for this area? What are business license requirements if any? How tough are building restrictions etc. Will you be able to use/experiment with some alternative building materials such as straw bales or cord wood? Will you get hackled for raising life stock and home butchering etc... We're country yockels at heart and just want to have nice little self supporting farmette...

Love to hear from you! Lmnde
